This course provides attendees with an in-depth understanding of the science and mitigation strategies behind the IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home™ program. Participants will examine how wind-blown embers, radiant heat, and direct flame contact can exploit vulnerabilities in building components, materials, and conditions around the property, leading to home ignition, damage, and loss. The course takes a deeper look at these vulnerabilities and the mitigation measures that can be implemented to significantly reduce wildfire risk, including improvements to roofs, vents, exterior walls, windows, doors, decks, fences, defensible space, and vegetation management. Participants will learn why no single mitigation measure provides complete protection and how multiple strategies must work together in coordination to reduce the likelihood of home ignition and improve a home’s ability to withstand wildfire.Date, Time, & Location
