Registry of Green Building Trainees
Green Building Trainees (GBTs) have completed Earth Advantage’s two-day 'Green Construction Workforce Training' (provided within the larger 8-12 week pre-apprenticeship programs offered by our partners) and have passed an accreditation exam, thereby earn our ‘Green Building Trainee’ credential.
Earth Advantage (with support from Energy Trust of Oregon) works with our community-based partners to deliver this customized training and accreditation to prepare tradespersons for a career in green building. We provide flexible training options to support a wide range of program types (youth training, pre-apprenticeship, higher education, and professional development). Our goal is to support our partner organizations listed below and enhance their excellent training programs to ensure these new tradespersons have an understanding of green building approaches and career pathways in residential construction.
The 2-day training focuses on the residential building sector and introduces trainees to green building market activity, trends, principles, practices, trades, and career pathway opportunities. Hands-on activities involve performing blower door testing, utilizing infrared cameras, reviewing plan sets, working with a table top house model, and assembling high performance wall mockups. On-site elements include performing a site visit to an under-construction green certified affordable housing project that provides Q&A opportunities with the construction team and instructor.
Once accredited, GBTs are listed on this registry and gain access to a certificate of completion and logos that can be included in a job seeker's portfolio, provided to prospective employers, and used to gain visibility as an emerging green building professional.
