Earth Advantage has been awarded a generous grant from Metro allowing us to provide targeted development assistance, free of charge, to emerging deconstruction firms in the region.
A limited number of contractors will receive in-depth consultation and training from a certified deconstruction master trainer, who will work individually with each firm on one or more whole-building deconstruction projects from start to finish.
In addition to providing comprehensive process improvement training and building valuable experience, training interactions will focus on specific areas of needed development, which could include estimating and competitive bidding, efficient project management, profitably managing and marketing salvaged materials, or any other area of need identified by the participant.
Candidate firms must be willing to commit to actively participating in the region's deconstruction industry subsequent to this training. Portland Prime Contractor Development Program firms will be given preference. The program will run through January 2020—applications are being accepted now.
How It Works
One-on-one consultation between a certified deconstruction master trainer and individual firms will take place throughout at least one whole building deconstruction project—typically 40+ hours of training and instruction. Earth Advantage will work with participating firms to secure a deconstruction project, and then use that project as the training site while ensuring that the project is completed efficiently and to the highest standards for safety and quality.
- Applications will be accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis beginning in February 2019. The program will continue through January 2020, however space is limited— interested firms should apply right away.
- Earth Advantage will work with contractors to identify and secure one or more deconstruction projects which will serve as training sites (Earth Advantage will not be a party to any deconstruction service contracts in partnership or on behalf of applicants). Scheduling of onsite consultation services will follow identification of training sites.
- Consultation will consist primarily of onsite process improvement training, providing skill development and experience, along with targeted consultation on specific areas of emphasis identified by the participating firm.
