Earth Advantage conducted an analysis of data entry into Home Energy Score software and discovered potential concerns regarding the accuracy, including area calculations and systems efficiency. The DOE Home Energy Score software contains some validation checks against data entry, however it is not yet comprehensive enough to cover all potential data entry errors.

For most of you the new step in GBR will have virtually no impact. You’ll get a screen that confirms your data was good and you can generate a Home Energy Report. There will be some new steps for those of you who encounter errors in the data. Here is how it will work when we release it on March 2, 2018.

This course is for anyone who is a qualified assessor with the City of Portland Home Energy Score program.

John Spillman: John is a trainer and technical consultant with Earth Advantage Institute. He teaches classes to Energy Auditors, Builders, Architects/Designers and Building Code officials. John has been promoting sustainable building and energy efficiency in both new and existing residential construction with Earth Advantage Institute since 2009. John’s construction background is in residential remodeling. He is currently a certified building analyst professional with the Building Performance Institute, and a LEED for Homes Green Rater. John earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from University of California, Davis.

Erik Odin Cathcart: Erik Odin Cathcart is the Director, Marketing & Strategy at Earth Advantage. He also leads the software development of the Green Building Registryâ„¢ overseeing user interface design, client relations, and programming. He has over 18 years of experience in art direction, marketing, and strategic planning with a focus on technology. Prior to his work at Earth Advantage, he focused on technology startup companies. His efforts have led to several successful launches and capital campaigns that built products and services with a technology focus from hydrogen fuel cells to high availability data centers. Cathcart is also a practicing professional artist whose work has been written up in the New York Times, as well as a writer who maintains a blog about contemporary art and society. He is currently working on a book about the artist Francis Bacon.
