Understanding the Program's Process
Quicklinks |
To begin with, the builder meets with one of Earth Advantage Institute’s Builder Outreach Specialists to review the requirements of the point sheet and the flow chart. After the builder has decided to pursue certification and has filled out the required paperwork, the project is registered with Earth Advantage Institute.
The first step towards certification starts with a plan review to calculate aspects such as window to floor ratio. The first on-site inspection happens at rough-in once insulation and the heating system are installed. During this inspection the technical staff conduct verification of mechanical equipment – including a duct blast test -- and insulation techniques. Upon completion of the home a verifier will perform a final inspection of the home to ensure proper performance. This visit includes a blower door test for airtightness.
If at any stage the builder has questions, or if corrective actions are needed prior to proceeding, Earth Advantage Institute’s builder outreach specialist is available to provide guidance, and to make the transition to green construction easy and seamless.
