LEED for Homes
The LEED Rating System is the nationally recognized standard for green building. LEED certification recognizes and rewards builders for meeting the highest performance standards, and gives homeowners confidence that their home is durable, healthy, and environmentally friendly. USGBC began the pilot test of LEED for Homes in August 2005. As of September 2007, about 425 builders representing 8,200 homes across the U.S. are participating in the pilot program, and over 270 homes have been LEED certified across the nation. Here in the northwest, 97 homes have been certified as of September 2007. The pilot test will conclude in fall 2007, and USGBC will launch the LEED for Homes rating system in November 2007. Earth Advantage, Inc. has been selected by the USGBC to be a LEED for Homes Program Provider. As a Program Provider, Earth Advantage, Inc. is responsible for working with those entities that wish to build their projects to the LEED for Homes standard. In this role, Earth Advantage, Inc. works with building professionals to help them understand and incorporate high performance green building practices and materials into their projects. This includes performance testing and compliance with the pilot rating system. To learn more or sign up for the pilot program, home building professionals should contact their Earth Advantage Representative.
