TOUR: How Hassalo on 8th Saved Money by Reusing Water

Presented by: Cascadia Green Building Council’s Portland Collaborative and Recode

Hassalo saved 1.5 million dollars by incorporating onsite water reuse, and multistory affordable housing developments are poised to reduce their costs and add beauty to their projects by incorporating water reuse like Hassalo did. Pete Muñoz of Biohabitats and Tom Puttman of Puttman Infrastructure will lead the tour to provide the inside scoop and expert advice.

Come check out this mixed-use development that spans four city blocks as part of Portland’s Lloyd EcoDistrict. The buildings share one of the largest natural organic recycling treatment systems in the US, which treats all the buildings' wastewater (60,000 gallons per day including human waste from toilets) for reuse for toilet flushing, mechanical cooling and sub-surface landscape irrigation in an urban setting.  Learn about the economic and ecological benefits of district scale onsite wastewater treatment and reuse.
