Energy Performance Scores: Valuing Energy Improvements

Overview
Close More

Consumers typically do not adequately account for the long-term operating costs they take on when they purchase an inefficient product or home.  In addition, most homeowners do not understand where energy (and, therefore, money) is being wasted in their home, or that heating and cooling accounts for over 55% of annual energy usage. They also do not understand the correlation between efficiency and the comfort, health and safety of their home.

The assessment associated with either an Energy Performance Score (EPS) or a HERS Index Score has demonstrated it has the potential to both inform and change behavior, saving occupants on average 20-30% annually on their utility bills when recommended upgrades were taken.  The course will take attendees through an EPS assessment, examine case studies for completed energy improvements and look at the growing importance of energy efficiency from the perspectives of homeowners, prospective homebuyers, lenders and appraisers.
