Certified Residential Green Appraiser (CRGA)

The Certified Residential Green Appraiser (CRGA) course was created for appraisers, tax assessors, and other real estate professionals, in partnership with Earth Advantage Institute, the region's leading provider of ENERGY STAR®, Earth Advantage®, and LEED® for Homes certification. The course is designed to build participants' knowledge of green building, and will provide an introduction to all phases of green residential construction, from proper siting of a home to finish material selection. Participants will analyze valuation studies and cost data for green residential projects, and will engage in appraising green homes through case studies.

Objectives

  • Explain the differences between "green" and "code" homes. 
  • Understand the market and regulatory forces at work in the green housing market and how they affect appraisers.
  • Access the most recent valuation data on green homes.
  • Apply appropriate adjustments to green homes when necessary.
  • Apply the coursework to appraisal assignments in the field.

Prerequisites/Requirement

There are no prerequisites for enrolling in Day One, Appraising Green Homes: Construction Methods and Trends.  In order to enroll in Day Two, Appraising Green Homes: Valuation Techiques, you must attend Appraising Green Homes: Construction Methods and Trends or be currently enrolled.  Students seeking continuing education units or the CRGA professional designation should be licensed appraisers in Oregon or Washington. Certification requires full attendance and successful completion of a final project and a written, closed-book examination with a minimum passing grade of 75%. Students are allowed to retake the exam once to receive a passing grade.
