Talent Oregon Receives a New Green Building

by Glen Phillips

The 164-seat James Morrison Collier Theatre Building, designed by Bruce Richie, Architect is located in Talent Oregon.  Talent has a population of 6,670 - a far smaller community than would typically be required to support a year round semi-professional theatre company.  However, Talent is not your typical community!

Prior to creation of this new building, Talent had supported the Camelot Theatre Company in its previous home right next door to their new home.  The previous building, with outdated lighting and noisy inefficient HVAC, was slated for removal due to the City's downtown redevelopment plan and the fact that their planning called for a street to intersect the current location.  However, in the face of such challenge, Camelot saw opportunity and was able to rally community support to realize the new building, which would ultimately give the Theatre Company room to grow attendance and increase their entertainment offerings.

Through a series of very fortunate events (including some very generous donations and a construction cost that ended up being less than anticipated), Camelot now occupies this wonderful new performance building with new high efficiency (and quiet) HVAC and lighting, in addition to several other sustainable features - including relocation of the previous building.  We couldn't be happier for Camelot and the City of Talent, and congratulate the entire community on a job well done!
